Green Issaquah Day at Squak Valley Park

Join the Green Issaquah team to kick-off our planting season.
In celebration of Issaquah’s natural areas and the benefits they provide, we will be creating and restoring Squak Valley Park to a healthy forested habitat. Our community partners, Mountain to Sound Greenway Trust, Issaquah Alps Trail Club, Woodland Park Zoo and Lake Sammamish Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnership, will join us hosting a variety of tabling activities throughout the event. Come meet and learn from the folks who steward the forest parks and open spaces near you!

All community members are welcome, and no experience necessary! Green Issaquah Day is family friendly and open to all ages.

Reserve your spot online.

History of Squak Valley Park
Squak Valley Park was acquired by the City to conserve and connect habitat along Issaquah Creek. This site has been overrun by blackberry and is lacking the forest canopy necessary to provide healthy habitat for salmon and other wildlife. Volunteers will be planting conifer trees that can grow 200 feet tall and live for centuries! These evergreen trees (like Douglas fir and western redcedar) provide shade over the creek, cooling water temperatures which is vital for salmon health. As the trees grow, branches and full trees fall into the creek and create better instream habitat complexity for salmon. These trees also provide benefits for water quality, slowing down stormwater, limiting erosion and filtering pollutants that would otherwise enter our waterways.
