Orca Presentation and Park Clean Up
The Lake Sammamish Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnership, Salish Sea School, Trout Unlimited, Three Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and Washington State Parks are joining together to kick-off Orca Action Month! Learn about orcas, keep trash out of our local waters and Puget Sound, and give back to this local park!
Event Details: Join us at 9:30 am on June 3rd at Sunset Beach at Lake Sammamish State Park, in Issaquah Washington. This event will begin with a presentation on orcas by local naturalist and Salish Sea School teacher Tiffany Waldner. Then at 10:30 am, volunteers will spread out around the park to help pick up trash, keeping it from entering creeks and the lake. Following the cleanup, participants are welcome to join in at 12:30 pm for complimentary snacks, a stormwater lesson, and some follow up activities like a prize raffle!
Discover Pass: Participants will receive a Discover Pass for volunteering (limited to one per vehicle/group).
What to bring: Water and a sack lunch if you’d like. Please dress for the weather. Grabbers, gloves and bags/buckets will be provided.
Accessibility: This event is open to people of all ages and abilities. Cleanup activities will take place around Lake Sammamish State Park on uneven ground including sand, grass, gravel and paved trails. The park has accessible facilities. The organizers understand everyone experiences the outdoors differently and are open to working with anyone that needs additional support. Please contact them in advance so that they can do their best to accommodate your needs and/or find a way for you or your group to have fun participating in the event.
