MCE has been an Issaquah staple since 1991, and this performance marks a significant chapter in their 35 year history as they wrap up the first season under the direction of Artistic Director, Michael Austin Miller.

According to Issaquah Arts, here is what makes the June 28th performance unique:

Local Arts: The program features an original choral work by MCE’s own collaborative pianist, Nathan Shiu. Nathan has been with MCE for 10+ years, he was hired on the spot after stepping in as a last-minute rehearsal sub and subsequently blowing the choir away!

With a Special Piano: Nathan will be playing OSLC’s Schimmel piano. Founded in Germany in 1885, Schimmel is known for meticulous hand-craftsmanship and a warm, rich tone that mimics the lyrical quality of the human voice. This brings a level of quality that you usually only hear in major symphony halls.

In a Welcoming Environment: A key part of Artistic Director Miller’s work is encouraging more connection with the chorus and the experience, regardless of whether you’re a musician, lifelong listener or a first time attendee. You’ll experience the classical, timeless experience of Mozart, the cinematic feel of world-music icon Christopher Tin, and familiar pop and folk storytellers like John Lennon and Dolly Parton.

*If you haven’t heard of Christopher Tin, in 2011 he was the first composer to win a Grammy for music written for a video game. Plus, the acoustics are terrific in the OSLC Sanctuary.
