Artist Reception for William Cook

TO RETURN

What happens when we return to experience something we’ve experienced before?

We may expect to see and feel the same way we did the first time we experienced it. In reality, this is quite impossible.

The mere passing of time will affect not just how we feel when returning to something, it will completely change the way we see it as well.

Science tells us that while our planet is endlessly rotating, tilting, and revolving around our sun, our galaxy is traveling 1.3 million miles per hour through space. All the while, our bodies are replacing around 330 billion cells each day.

Therefore, when we return to experiencing something we’ve experienced before, we are literally experiencing it as completely different individuals inhabiting a completely different space and time.

In my artistic process, I enjoy returning to the same subject time and time again. In this series of monotypes and paintings I attempt TO RETURN to my subjects through ink, oil paint or memory, to see how I will reinterpret them after the passage of time has changed the way I see.

About William:

I was born and have lived my life here in the Pacific Northwest. After many years as a song writer, recording artist, and performer, I switched professions to raise my two children and pursue my art practice throughout the Seattle area.

I now live on Tiger Mountain here in Issaquah, Washington with my wife and children, and have been enjoying teaching many different forms of printmaking and painting at various art schools around the region, including Happy Time Studio, Kirkland Arts Center, Postmark Center for the Arts, and North Bend Art & Industry.

You can learn more about my work here.

The gallery space is open by appointment only, and for pop up hours as announced. Reach out, and follow our instagram for details! We would love to show you this gorgeous work.
